Who We Are

In the United States, 34.8 million children under the age of 17, which is 50% of American children, are exposed to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and 60% of children have been exposed to crime & violence directly or indirectly, that can severely harm their future health and well-being. Children with traumatic experience are 15 times more likely to attempt suicide, 4 times more likely to become a drug addict or alcoholic and 3 times more likely to suffer from depression. Undergoing traumatic experiences in childhood and growing up in poverty can affect brain development and lead to serious mental-health problems, learning difficulties according to a new study of Philadelphia youngsters. Philadelphia Peace in progress mission is to improve the future of troubled teens and young adults by providing outreach services to learn and grow. Our services will provide educational and cultural enrichment, mentoring, life transformation skills which will help uplift their lives and show them a path to a better future for them.

What We Do

Philly Peace in Progress is a non-profit organization located in West Philadelphia that addresses violence before, during and after it occurs. Philly Peace in Progress tackles this epidemic through a holist approach. Our mission is to rebuild troubled youth by helping them become more positive and healthy problem solvers. Our organization will be offering an after- school program and summer programs for youth ages 10 to 16 and life social skills to adults from ages 17 to 25 in West Philadelphia. Our Curriculum focuses on the interests and challenges the kids face, such as anger management, legal issues, grades etc. We aim to develop critical thinking skills through fun, yet educational field trips, group talks with experts, life transformational skill activities, cultural enrichment programs, and tutoring. Likewise, as many are not food secure, Philly Peace in Progress also provides food programs to are participants.
