Description

Philly Reading Coaches (PRC) is a reading program funded by the Office of Children and Families and implemented by Out-of-School Time Providers based on proven models that combine early reading support, access to books, and community volunteers to boost reading skills for our city’s children.  The program works by pairing trained volunteers with young students – kindergarten through 3rd grade, and by providing fun and child-guided reading experiences that help build reading skills and motivation.  Each child in the program also receives 25 free books to take home.

The PRC Program Aide serves as the key liaison for the PRC program. In this role, PAs will oversee a team of committed volunteers focused on improving the literacy levels and love of reading for students in grades K-3. The SIs will manage the volunteers and student-volunteer sessions at assigned sites, ensuring the program is implemented with fidelity. PAs will report to the OST Site Director and PRC Volunteer Coordinator.

This internship is a professional learning experience that offers meaningful, practical work in early childhood education and social work. Program Aides will work up to 5 hours per week. This includes at least 3 hours of program oversight, up to 1 hour of data organization and entry, and 60 minutes per month for Communities of Practice meetings. The program will run from October 2025 to May 2026.
