Who We Are and What We Do

On May 24, 2022, the boards of Philadelphia Futures and Steppingstone Scholars voted to merge, creating one of the most dynamic, expansive, and trusted educational nonprofits in the City of Philadelphia. This vote provides a path for the joint organization to significantly scale services for students, particularly Black, Latino/a, and first-generation students, and to create sustainable access to academic and workforce opportunities.

Upon the official merger, which is subject to required governmental approvals, the organization will rebrand as a new entity to be unveiled in Fall 2022. In the coming months, we are excited to make key additions to the team (informally called PFSS in the interim) that will support the vision for the new organization: “all Philadelphia students graduate high school with pathways to economic mobility through college and workforce success.”

About this Role: Join a team of talented educators and work with high-achieving students.

You’ll help us to achieve:

  • Educational programming specific to SAT Prep and support for talented underserved students in the Philadelphia region to achieve academic success, opportunity, and a college degree.

  • Providing a curriculum that includes summer/weekend academic programs, internships, tutoring, enrichment, and academic advising services, where we mediate between families and schools in an effort to narrow not only the gap in achievement but how minority and low-income students are served by their schools.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Submitting a syllabus to Supervisor, detailing SAT course goals and desired outcomes before the start of the program
  • Delivering rigorous and challenging instructional SAT material, appealing to multiple learning styles
  • Utilizing effective classroom management strategies during instruction
  • Working closely with Faculty and Director to analyze SAT student data to inform instruction
  • Working with colleagues to plan and implement SAT program activities as needed
  • Being accountable and monitor student achievement with SAT, scaffolding and differentiating instruction to support student achievement with SAT
  • Incorporating Steppingstone Academy routines and instructional strategies, demonstrating an ability to be receptive to feedback
  • Monitoring students during classroom transitions and activities and as needed
  • Engaging students in useful, dynamic, and creative instruction that bolsters core skills to help them be successful when taking the SAT
  • Substitute teaching for faculty members who are absent

About you:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience teaching middle/high school students
  • Demonstrated proficiency in one or more content SAT areas (e.g. Algebra, Biology, English Literature)
  • Experience teaching students from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Willingness  to work collaboratively with Faculty and Program Directors to achieve desired learning outcomes including but not limited to:
    • Implementing cross-curricular instruction
    • Assessing students strength with SAT academically; responding to areas where improvement is necessary
