Steppingstone Scholars is excited to announce the start of the hiring process for Summer 2022 opportunities within the organization. 

 

Steppingstone Scholars provides talented, underserved students in the City of Philadelphia with access to high-quality academic and workforce opportunities. Through consistent engagement, advising, and programming, Steppingstone creates pathways beginning in middle school to college and career. Steppingstone maintains a robust set of summer opportunities for students in middle, high school, and transitioning to college. The organization employs a number of seasonal staff to deliver high quality programming and support to our Scholars.

 

We are seeking individuals with a passion for Philadelphia youth, and a desire to help us deliver high caliber summer programs across the city to middle schoolers from 7 area middle schools.

About this Role

Summer tutor-mentors can work in one of two programs: The Middle Grades Academy STEAM Program and the 9th grade Summer Bridge Program. The Middle Grades Academy STEAM summer program will work with rising 7th and rising 8th graders from 7 local middle schools; Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary, Paul L Dunbar Elementary, Tanner G Duckrey Elementary, Morton McMichael Elementary, Julia R Masterman, Girard Arts Music Program, and George W. Carver Engineering and Science school.

The 9th grade Summer Bridge Program is a partnership between Steppingstone Scholars and Philadelphia Futures to support 100 9th graders make the transition to public high schools. 

Job Description: Tutor Mentors will report to the grade team leaders and work in partnership with summer staff to deliver rigorous and engaging summer programming.  Summer Program Tutor Mentors will leave the program with new skills and ideas to apply to future classrooms or jobs.

  • Organize and oversee breakfast and lunch distribution 
  • Meet students at the designated pick-up location and accompany them on the van/bus to and from the program location. 
  • Supervise and support students during transitions between classes 
  • Uphold all health and safety requirements 
  • Distribute necessary PPE to students as needed
  • Support content development for family orientation and week zero professional development
  • Communicate with parents, families, and/or students who are tardy or absent for class and fill out phone call log accordingly
  • Support field trip and guest speaker planning
  • Effectively plan, lead or support a club (i.e drama, music, yoga, robotics, science labs, recess, sports) and/or daily advisory sessions
  • Contribute content for weekly newsletter to families
  • Opportunities for individual student conferencing
  • Utilize classroom management strategies throughout the day

 

Compensation starts at $15/hr . Up to 35 hours a week are available.
