Who We Are
Team Up Philly is dedicated to empowering girls living in under-served Philadelphia neighborhoods to achieve their full potential through participation in programs that combine athletics, character development, fitness & nutrition education, leadership training and academic support. We believe strongly in the value of bringing urban and suburban communities together in partnerships that benefit both.
Our chief focus is on empowering girls in their critical adolescent and teen years to grow stronger, healthier, more confident and capable while supporting each other as part of a team, learning to stand for themselves and with each other.
We take a long-term, intensive approach, offering school-year programs as well as summer camp opportunities and providing coaching and mentoring to participants over a period of years.
What We Do
Our Girls Clubs and Sports for Juvenile Justice programs run from October - June.
GIRLS CLUBS, all in West Philly:
We begin with fitness activities : drills and fundamentals of basketball and other sports are taught, practiced and played. We move to healthy snack and values-social-emotional learning; respect, goal-setting, patience, positive communication, teamwork, resilience, leadership, and grit are some of the topics we address together. Team Up Philly uses the GoGirlGo! curriculum developed by the Women’s Sport Foundation, helping guide girls to become stronger, more fit and more confident. The girls form a strong bond during the year, and participate in service projects and field trips. No sports experience necessary.
Location 1- Girls Club, Shepard Rec is held at Shepard Rec Center on MONDAYS and WEDNESDAYS from 3:45- 5:15 For girls in 4th through 8th grades.

Sports For Juvenile Justice (SJJ) operates Thursday evenings from 6:30-8 at Elite Sports Factory in Manayunk. SJJ is a unique initiative that places adjudicated youth into sports-based youth development programs. Every week, a group of teenage girls can be found hard at work at Elite Sports Factory learning fitness from Team Up Philly coaches. The group spends a second segment in the classroom, sharing nutritious snacks and engaging in character-building activities; conflict resolution, positive communication, anger management, goal-setting and creating healthy relationships are key areas of focus. The girls become a strong source of support, encouraging each other to make positive choices in their lives.
