Who We Are
Think clearly and write with clarity—It's our battle cry, our tagline, our mantra. It's served as our elevator pitch and mission statement since our launch in 2009.
Not everyone—as is so strikingly apparent of late—thinks clearly. And even fewer people express themselves with clarity.
But for those who nail both—clarity of thought and expression—a lifetime of Mightiness is there for the taking.
We're true believers in the power of writing.
What We Do
In our Mighty Elementary & Middle School Academy programs, children build writing stamina and strong relationships by writing every day and engage in fun, positive, and collaborative writing activities to develop a love of writing.
If you love writing and want to share that love with young people, we have a volunteer opportunity that is right for you.
Our Mighty volunteers (over 400 every year) are writers, playwrights, filmmakers, artists and business professionals. They all have three things in common: compassion, patience and a willingness to learn from their students.
There are four ways to volunteer:
- Food and diaper distribution (in-person only)
- 1:1 mentorships (virtual and in-person)
- After-School Academy tutor
- In-person only
- Monday-Thursday from 3 pm to 6 pm
- Come join us after school and help our Mighty kids with homework, reading, and writing.
For more information about our approach, consult the Volunteer Handbook. If you'd like to volunteer, get started by completing this application. In addition to the application, all volunteers (including virtual volunteers) are required to submit standard security clearances and documentation of their COVID-19 vaccinations:
- Learn more about the clearance process.
- Learn more about MW’s Volunteer Covid Vaccination Policy.
