The Puentes de Salud Education branch serves youth ages 3-18 and their families throughout out-of-school-time programming. About the Program: Lanzando Líderes is an after-school program for adolescents grades 9-12 in the South Philadelphia Latinx immigrant community. LL takes place in-person at Puentes de Salud in South Philadelphia one afternoon per week (Thursdays). This program was developed and piloted in 2017 and officially incorporated into Puentes de Salud’s education programming in the fall of 2018. In July 2020, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the program lost funding/staffing and remained active in a limited state. The fall of 2022 was its year of return to in-person programming which allowed for it to benefit from 1-1 tutoring/mentorship. Now, Lanzando Líderes strives to be a space where Latine youth can receive academic and post-secondary support, while also learning meaningful leadership and day-to-day skills in an environment that is culturally-responsive and celebrates their multilingualism and multiculturalism. Position Description: We seek Spanish-speaking, young adults (18-24 year olds) volunteers dedicated to creating comfortable bilingual learning spaces that are accessible to our high school students. In this role, the volunteer will work 1:1 or in a small student-to-volunteer ratio providing academic tutoring. The volunteer will also provide mentorship as our students navigate high school, personal goal setting, leadership, and exploration of post-secondary opportunities. NEW! In addition to academic support and mentorship, this role will require the volunteer to lead a lesson/workshop for our students once per semester on a topic of their choice. At LL, we believe in leading by example, therefore, we seek volunteers willing to grow their own leadership alongside our students. You will receive all necessary support from the Adolescent Education Supervisor to co-develop logistics and materials. Teaching/facilitating experience is not required! Duties and Responsibilities: Commit to weekly in-person sessions on Thursdays from 3:00-6:00pm. Students will develop their creative skills by learning and practicing Latin American dance techniques.
