Volunteer: Male Mentors (paid) needed for Camp Mariposa (4 - 6 weekends per year)

Vaccinated Male students needed to mentor young people touched by addiction.

JFCS is running a camp for children ages 9-12 who have been affected by the substance abuse of a loved one. The camp will take place on six different weekends (one every other month) over the course of a year. There will be professional social workers on staff to provide counseling, but much of the schedule over the weekends will be filled with traditional camp activities like hiking and arts & crafts.

We’re looking for college students to join us for a minimum of four of the weekends, mentoring and connecting with the campers. Mentors will be staying overnight in the cabins with the kids (as a camp counselor would), and must pass child abuse clearances and a criminal background check, and will be paid $500 for each weekend. This is a great opportunity for someone who cares about kids and wants to make a difference in their lives while making some extra money and having a great time doing fun camp activities. I’ve attached a flyer with details.

POSITION TITLE: Camp Mariposa Mentor Non-Exempt Position

MAJOR DUTIES: The Camp Mariposa mentors under the supervision of the Camp Mariposa Program Supervisor and Clinical Director. · Be present throughout the camp weekend from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, including sleeping in a cabin with youth and being available as needed throughout the night. Breaks will be assigned in accordance to Pennsylvania State labor laws.

· Work as part of a team with volunteers, mentors, and program supervisors.

· Understand your role as a mandatory reporter and follow agency procedures to fulfill this role (will provide training).

· Make a year-long commitment to Camp and be able to attend 4 out of the 6 camp weekends per year.

· Be available in between camp weekends for additional daytime activities to ensure continuity of care for campers.

· Be able to participate in virtual programing as needed.

· Other duties as assigned.

A note about COVID-19:
The Novick Urban Farm staff are taking COVID-19 very seriously and will expect apprenticeships to do the same. We successfully hosted apprentices during both pandemic seasons and are well prepared to make this experience as safe as possible for everyone involved. We can provide disposable masks and hand sanitizer, and we regularly sanitize all farm tools. Being an outdoor location allows us to easily maintain safe physical distance, and we will continue to limit our volunteer/visitor group sizes per CDC recommendations until it is safe to return to normal operations. For the moment, our educational visits are on pause, and we are spending the majority of our focus on farming. Volunteer: Volunteer as an English Conversation Partner

Are you ready to change a life from the comfort of home?

Join ENGin as a conversation partner! This is a flexible and unique opportunity to make a direct impact on someone’s life while discovering a new culture and meeting a new friend.

We’ll pair you up with a buddy in Ukraine for weekly videochats at times that are convenient for you. During your conversations, you’ll practice English with your partner, learn about each other’s cultures, and offer an empathetic, authentic space for connection.

No teaching experience or knowledge of Ukrainian is required to volunteer with us. All of our participants can understand and hold a basic conversation in English. We offer ample training resources, session materials and total flexibility to customize your sessions to fit your/your partner’s goals and preferences. You’ll also have access to online communities to share ideas and ask questions.

Our only requirements for volunteers are English fluency, a strong internet connection, and the ability to commit to one hour a week for a minimum of 10-12 weeks.

Here's what three ENGin volunteers say about their experience."I'm so glad that I got this experience and was able to make a new friend. By putting in a small amount of time, I'm able to make a huge impact on my student.""This program has been, I think, life-changing for both of us. I really consider her more like my daughter right now. That's how close we have become!""I made a friend in Ukraine and we are teaching each other about our culture, our language, and our humor. We're even trading dad jokes! Both of us look forward to our chats and have a hard time wrapping it up."

Volunteer: Become a Puppy Sitter for a Service Dog in Training

Raising a skilled service dog requires the dedication and efforts of many people, working together to positively impact the life of a wounded Veteran. Puppy Sitters play an important role by providing a safe, nurturing environment for service dogs in training on a temporary basis. They may be transitioning between caretakers or their Puppy Parents / Raisers may need time off for a holiday or a family emergency. Puppy Sitters receive the same training as Puppy Parents so they can step in with confidence and help when needed. The training covers the proper care of a SDiT, as well as socialization and basic commands.

A Puppy Sitter takes over the care of the dog when a Puppy Parents cannot. Responsibilities include:

Raising a skilled service dog requires the dedication and efforts of many people, working together to positively impact the life of a wounded Veteran. Puppy Sitters play an important role by providing a safe, nurturing environment for service dogs in training on a temporary basis. Sometimes, WCC service dogs in training (SDiT) need a place to stay for a few days or even a few weeks.

Provide a safe and consistent training environment Take responsibility for the dog’s health and wellbeing while in their care Drop off/pick up the dog for training (may vary by program location) Ability to accommodate requests during high-travel times, including the summer months, weekends and holidays

Hello! We are a small organization run exclusively by and even smaller team of volunteer neighbors who live, work, study and/or play in Cobbs Creek. Because we all also have day jobs we desperately need an organized individual who can help us keep tabs on our e-mail and voicemails and maintain correspondence from community members and social media to better reach our neighbors. Could this be you? We use g-mail and the rest of the Google suite for administrative functions, as well as the various social media platforms, Canva and Zoom. We'd like someone who can help us promote our monthly meetings, flag timely messages that pertain to zoning meetings, calendar invites for events, grants and other deadline driven opportunities and if possible, help with the design and launch of a Squarespace site.

Volunteer: Puppy Parents/ Raisers Needed - Raise and Train a Service Dog for a Veteran!

Warrior Canine Connection is a non-profit organization which breeds, raises and trains dogs with the assistance of Veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI), or mobility issues. Our headquarters is located in Boyds, MD, but we have a site at Penn in Philadelphia, Pa. These dogs are eventually placed as service dogs for Wounded Warriors, military family support dogs, or facility dogs for Veteran Organizations. We are actively seeking volunteers to serve as Puppy Parents for future service dogs in training.

For the duration of their training, WCC pups live in Puppy Parent homes. In addition to any training the dogs do with Warriors, they are constantly working on their skills in a home environment and at training sessions at WCC and are taken on weekly outings to public places where they learn to use their training in real-life situations.

Puppy Parents raise our service dogs for 4 to 20 months before the dogs graduate and are placed with their forever Veteran. To be considered for this important task, you must be willing and able to provide the following support and training for the WCC service dog in training:

Provide a stable, safe, consistent and loving environment Provide the dog with access to new places, new people and new experiences Supervise the dog throughout the day Teach the dog manners and basic commands Keep the dog on a leash at all times or supervised in a securely fenced area Closely monitor the dog’s progress and submit monthly reports Attend weekly training classes, including social outings that build skills and confidence Provide the dog with age-appropriate socialization opportunities Ensure that the WCC dog is the only dog under the age of one in your home Agree to return the dog upon request Transport the dog to the veterinarian when necessary Depending on program location, you may be required to drop off/pick up the dog at the training office during the workweek.
*Some locations require the puppy parent to take the service dog in training to work.

Click here to learn more:  http://www.warriorcanineconnection.org/get-involved/become-a-puppy-parent/

or complete the following application: https://warriorcanineconnection.tfaforms.net/4806453

This is a big commitment, but we offer flexibility.  We often need puppy starters who can commit to raising the puppy from 8 weeks to 6 months of age.  Also, you can think about raising as a team, such as a child/parent team or 2 colleagues/friends who will share in the commitment.
