Join the Lindy Center for a morning of kit packing and community building in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.! Volunteers will be provided with a light breakfast and remarks from community partners while working together to pack a total of 1,500 kits to support the following organizations and causes:
Angels in Motion Starting with one woman's efforts to rescue her child from the disease of substance abuse disorder (SUD) in 2015, AIM has grown into a robust, volunteer run organization providing outreach services to the unhoused in Kensington and the surrounding areas distributing food, clothing, toiletries, wound care, and access to treatment program and other support services. Drexel volunteers will pack 1000 blessing bags containing food and resource pamphlets to support AIM's weekly distribution events.
U.S. Dream Academy A non-profit organization created to inspire and invest in the lives of children of incarcerated parents and families in communities harmed by systemic inequities, US Dream Academy offers afterschool program for students in grades 3rd - 8th to provide academic, social, and values enrichment through supportive mentoring and the use of technology. Drexel volunteers will pack 100 kits with educational and recreational items to be given to US Dream Academy participants.
Lindy Scholars School Partners for over 15 years Drexel University's Lindy Scholar's program has partnered with middle schools in West Philadelphia to provide enhanced educational enrichment opportunities to local middle school students while also giving Drexel students meaningful ways to connect with and support youth in our community. Drexel volunteers will pack over 400 kits with Drexel swag and personalized notes of appreciation to be given to the teachers and administrators at Alain Locke, Martha Washington, Morton Michael, Samuel Powell, and Science Leadership Academy Middle Schools.
