The Support Volunteer supports multiple functions within the Red Cross House located at 40th & Powelton, Philadelphia. This unique (only type of its kind in the nation!) is a short-term recovery center for families displaced by disaster in the Greater Philadelphia region.

Responsibilities include assisting with front desk, reception, and kitchen duties. Specific tasks may include:

    • Answering client questions/letting them in the front door
    • Answering phones
    • Supporting the intake process
    • Assisting in preparing meals for individuals and families
    • Maintaining a clean kitchen area
    • Helping to serve meals during meal time
    • Putting away food orders

Support volunteers are expected to commit to at least one shift per week. There are three shifts every day: 8AM – 12PM; 12PM – 4PM; and 4PM – 8PM. Volunteers with availability on weekdays are especially needed. 

Qualifications

    • Enthusiastic about the American Red Cross mission and programs
    • Exceptional people skills to understand and meet the needs of a diverse audience
    • Interest in learning and working on projects
    • Detail-oriented, thorough, and reliable
    • Minimum age 18
    • This position will require passing additional background checks, per PA Law
