Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) Recovery Client Care Program Service Associate
Regional position covering Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties
This position supports the Southeastern Pennsylvania (SEPA) Regional Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) department by providing assistance and guidance to those impacted by a disaster, assisting them in a timely matter as they apply for and receive help from community resources and financial aid. Includes working by phone and on a computer providing referrals, advocacy, recommendations, etc. Volunteers may choose to work remotely using own phone and Internet or from the Red Cross House, our facility at 40th & Powelton in West Philadelphia -- JUST BLOCKS FROM CAMPUS -- where disaster clients and their families are offered free temporary housing.
Responsibilities:
- Conducting intake, interviewing clients, and opening cases, as necessary.
- Providing access to financial assistance, internal referrals, community referrals, etc.
- Conducting follow-up and recovery planning services.
- Solving problems and advocating for clients and personnel impacted by disasters.
- Additional related duties as discussed with supervisor.
Time Commitment:
- Varies; typically 5+ hours per week although more active during disaster responses, especially when shelters are opened, plus attendance at monthly meetings (virtual).
Qualifications:
- Availability to use own phone and computer with Internet access, along with strong written and verbal communication skills. May use equipment and Internet when working from Red Cross location.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) helpful, although not required.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Comfortable interacting with people from various diverse backgrounds whose lives have been disrupted and are presenting with immediate needs.
- Ability to learn new skills, including technical skills involving proprietary case management software. All training provided!
- Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
