Distribution volunteers are consistent and welcoming supports at our Lunch & Literacy distribution sites. They meet all guests’ needs with no questions asked, enforce social distancing and other safety measures, and share program information. Shifts are approximately three hours/day.
Qualifications

High school diploma or current high school student (with approval by site staff);

Basic people skills and a consistent, positive approach to community members;

Sincere desire to serve the community;

Ability to communicate with youth, teenagers, other volunteers, and adult clients openly and non-judgmentally;

Ability to establish relationships based on mutual responsibility and respect;

Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to suggest options and alternatives; and
-
Ability to maintain clear professional boundaries when providing social or emotional support.
Responsibilities

Attend an orientation and interview with site staff;
-
Accept deliveries and unload trucks;
-
Prepare and distribute material for programs;
-
Attend distribution debrief meetings as needed;

Organize, pack and distribute food, diapers, books, and other items efficiently;

Reinforce safety and distribution guidelines with assertiveness

Administrative tasks including data entry, managing contact lists, providing daily guest count;

Support site staff in daily reporting;
-
Communicate with people of different backgrounds in a friendly and professional manner;

Connect families to our educational programs and resources;
-
Support on-site programming and educational activities that run during distribution;

Maintain a minimum three-month commitment to one site, volunteering at least once weekly;

Submit documentation as requested by MW staff;

Sign in every time you enter Mighty Writers and sign out when you leave; and
-
Maintain open and timely communication with staff, other volunteers, youth workers, and clients at distribution sites.
