Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Week, January 16th, 2023 - January 20th, 2023
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service has been a call to action for Americans to commit themselves to give back to their communities in the spirit of Dr. King's civil rights activism and teachings. Starting in 2022, the Lindy Center for Civic Engagement has extended the one-day service event to a week of activities and reflection opportunities inviting the Drexel and wider community to learn about the civil rights movement and the values and messages that Dr. King preached, including the Beloved Community, economic justice, racial equity, and nonviolent resistance. This year, we are excited to again host own educational and reflective programming and to support service and other events around the University.
Day of Service
For those interested in participating in the MLK Day of Service on January 16, 2023 as individuals and groups:
- We encourage the use of this civic engagement database, Galaxy, to post or search for individual or group opportunities that meet your needs and interests. We also have information about local organizations hosting days of service so if you would like to reach out to us, email lindycenter@drexel.edu and we can help you find something to do.
- Global Citizen is a partner of the Lindy Center and the central organizing resource for the Dr. King Day of Service in Philadelphia. We encourage you to visit their volunteer site which lists hundreds of virtual and in-person service opportunities.
- Our office can provide SEPTA passes, clearances, or support needed for materials. Please contact lindycenter@drexel.edu for more information. If you plan to collect material resources (coats, toiletries, hygiene products, school supplies, food, etc.) for a partner, we would be happy to promote and contribute.
Lindy Center's Focus on Black Feminism in the Civil Rights Movement

If you would be interested in collaborating on events or educational opportunities throughout the week, helping us to share and promote, or if you have events or efforts that the Lindy Center can support or promote over the week, please let us know!
Also, check out last year's Dr. King Week Spotify Playlist and Dr. King Week Reading List. We are extremely grateful to the Drexel University Libraries for annotating this reading list with links containing DUL-licensed access to titles where available. If you'd like a copy of this annotated list so you can check some of these books out of Drexel's library, contact the Lindy Center! (lindycenter@drexel.edu).
