CTC - Changing the Conversation for Progress

Changing the Conversation Together for Progress ("CTC") is an independent 501(c)(4) Social Welfare organization. Our mission is to engage unlikely voters in authentic conversations in order to strengthen democracy and promote justice.

CTC’s goal is to build on and expand this promising work into other crucial battleground areas where we know these margins could make a difference between winning and losing crucial campaigns. In order to do so, we’re helping organizations train canvassers and launch their own deep canvassing programs.

CTC is dedicated to deep canvassing as a tool for building a more inclusive democracy and a progressive majority.

Deep canvassing—where we connect face-to-face with potential voters by sharing stories—is the most effective form of voter persuasion ever measured.

CTC’s pilot deep canvassing campaign helped flip a GOP stronghold district in Staten Island to blue in 2018. In 2020, CTC shifted focus to Pennsylvania, a crucial battleground during the presidential election. That year, unlikely voters that CTC canvassers spoke with voted at a 10% higher rate than their comparable neighbors. In the midterm elections in 2022, our impact was even bigger – the voters we spoke with voted at a rate that was 15% higher than their neighbors!

In the 2024 presidential year, we continued our work to turn out voters where the margins make a difference between winning and losing crucial campaigns including the top of the ticket. Those of us trying to stop Trumpism in 2024 lost. But our work still mattered: 

• Over 1,000 individuals completed over 2,600 canvassing sessions
• Remarkably, 30 people participated in over 10 canvass shifts each
• Current numbers indicate we had 6,000 complete deep canvassing conversations before November 1
• From November 1 – 5, our canvassers easily had over 2,600 conversations focused on making vote plans

There’s no better way to connect with and understand people than having personal, two-way, face-to-face conversations. And there’s no better way to respond to the fear, anxiety, grief, and rage we feel about the state of the country than by joining others in collective action.
