Who We Are

The Barn at Spring Brook Farm is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization located on a 17-acre farm in West Chester, PA. We serve children ages 2-12 with physical, cognitive and/or developmental disabilities. Our mission here at The Barn is to enrich the developmental skills and lives of children with disabilities through animal-assisted and natured-based experiences. The Barn was created as a fully handicapped-accessible facility so that children who might otherwise not be able to experience the complete range of farm activities and involvement in animal care would be able to do so. We are the only organization to offer these unique services in the Greater Philadelphia Region.

What We Do

The Barn achieves its mission through three main programs: Individual ProgramsCamp Geronimo and Field Trips. Every year The Barn also offers several events geared to local families who have children with disabilities. These include an Autumn Festival, Spring & Summer Socialization Events and ‘Holiday Pancake Palooza’. In addition, The Barn provides parent support in the form of seminars and mutual support groups and as well as a lending library of resources for children with special needs.

Individual Programs: One-on-one programs are offered to children on a weekly basis. Children visit The Barn once a week for a six-week session to work individually with an experienced volunteer. The Barn’s staff develops a Barn Activity Plan to help set goals and track the child’s improvements over time. Parents/Guardians are involved in the goal-setting process so we can best understand each child’s capabilities and needs and determine how The Barn can complement any existing therapy or education.

Camp Geronimo: The Barn offers children a unique summer camp experience – an opportunity to have fun in a safe, secure setting while learning new skills that address their specific needs. At present, we offer six one-week sessions. A one-to-one ratio of counselors to campers allows children with a range of abilities to participate in summer camp.

Field Trips: The Barn offers virtual and in-person field trips to groups of students from local schools and programs serving children with special needs.
